U3A members who have been part of the Shutterbugs, now the Photography Discussion Group, were saddened recently to learn of the passing of Mike Connell after a brave fight with cancer. Mike left us, far too early, on April 20.
Mike was one of Australia’s leading photographers, a pioneer of digital photography since the early 90’s, and a Master of Photography and Life Member of the Prestigious Australian Institute of Professional Photography.
Mike regularly attended Shutterbugs meetings, providing insightful, thoughtful (and sometimes, immaculately diplomatic) critiques of members’ work. As one of Australia’s leading professional photographers, Mike was extremely generous of his time and invaluable experience. It was clear that he loved to pass on the skills and lessons he’d learnt in a lifetime of photography. Shutterbugs members will recall his exuberant and obvious delight when one of us ‘nailed it’ with a photograph!
Thank you Mike. A gentle and generous man. Rest in Peace. We are all richer for having known you. Our sincere condolences to Jane.
